BioConnect DE’s Biomanufacturing Training Program offers a unique opportunity to launch your career in the fast-growing life sciences sector. Open to adults authorized to work in the US with a high school diploma or GED, this program is designed to provide accessible training and hands-on experience, setting participants up for success in bioscience manufacturing roles.

No-Cost for Participants

The program is completely free to accepted participants, but applicants must apply and be selected to join. In addition to no tuition fees, students can receive a stipend to assist with challenges such as transportation, childcare, and technology access.


Employer-Informed Curriculum

Our training is designed with input from industry experts to ensure that you gain the skills employers need most. You’ll receive training as a skilled technician, manufacturing operator, or in quality assurance, through workforce readiness courses that help you develop professional skills for job success.


Convenient Location & Industry Exposure

To make training as accessible as possible, we offer in-person, online, and hybrid formats, including options near public transit routes and mobile training systems. You’ll also gain valuable exposure to the industry through hands-on learning experiences.


Comprehensive Support & Services

Our program goes beyond training by providing comprehensive support and services to ensure student success. We offer career coaching and job placement assistance, removing barriers to employment.

This project is supported through $2.1M in Congressionally Directed Spending Funds. These monies help to support approximately 75% of the total costs of the program.

Where does the Bioconnect DE Biomanufacturing Training Program take place? Is there parking?

Most classes take place at the Chemours STEM Hub at East Side Charter School at 3000 N. Claymont St, Wilmington, DE 19802

Free parking is available in an on-site parking lot.

What is the cost of the Biomanufacturing Training Program?

The program is completely free to accepted participants, but applicants must apply and be selected to join. In addition to no tuition fees, the program may be able to assist students with challenges such as transportation, childcare, and technology access.

Does Bioconnect DE provide any wraparound services during the course or post graduation?

Our program goes beyond training by providing comprehensive support and services to ensure student success. We offer career coaching and job placement assistance, removing barriers to employment. Students also have the ability to stay connected with us and other program graduates to maintain a sense of community and early access to job opportunities.

What is the training program schedule?

The training schedule is 2 nights a week, and 3 hours on Saturday, for about 6-8 weeks. Exact times will vary per cohort, but the class is strucuted to work around a typical 9am-5pm employment schedule.

Who is teaching this course?

Drs. Katie Lakofsky and Taylor Campbell are the regular instructors for this course, along with some guest speakers.

What are the class dates?

Varies by cohort, but generally, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays for 6-8 weeks.

What are the expectations about class attendance? What if I need to miss a day?

Students are expected to attend all classes, and frequent absences could result in being disqualified from the program. Each student is allowed one absence. However, we understand extenuating circumstances can arise and are willing to work with students on a case-by-case basis within reason. 

Do I need a computer to participate in the training program?

A laptop will be provided if needed. 

Does this program have homework?

Some minimal homework is assigned throughout the course, including resume building and job searching.

Do I receive a certificate or degree upon graduation?

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the course.

What does the application process entail?

To apply, you must complete the online application and attend the required in-person candidate reception. An interview will then be scheduled with each eligible applicant.

If I don’t get accepted into a class, can I be considered for future classes?

Yes. If you are not accepted for the current session, but you met the requirements, your application will be saved for consideration of future training cohorts.

How many people are in each class?

There are approximately 25 students per cohort.

Is there a minimum or maximum age to participate?

You must be a minimum of 18 years old, and there is no maximum age. 

Do I need any scientific experience or background?

Nope, no experience required! This program is completely entry level.

I am a senior in high school. Can I apply to be part of this program?

If you are 18 years or older, you can apply as a senior in high school. However, you will not be eligible for acceptance into the course until you provide your high school diploma or GED. 

I have a criminal record. Can I take part in this training program?

Yes. While we do not do a background check for our program applicants, please keep in mind that most employers will.

Are graduates of Bioconnect DE’s Biomanufacturing Training program guaranteed a job after graduation?

No. While our graduates are not guaranteed jobs after completing this course, they do have an advantage on the job market. We also help place graduates in positions by communicating with various industry partners in Delaware, such as AstraZeneca, Graver Technologies, Datwyler, and more.

What jobs does the Biomanufacturing Training Program prepare graduates to be hired into?

This program prepares graduates to enter the biomanufacturing work force in hands-on, entry-level positions. Often these jobs are refered to as technicians or process operators and require shift work schedules.

Can I be promoted from entry-level with only a high school degree and this certificate? What if I want to pursue a 2-year or a 4-year college degree after graduation?

Yes, it is possible to be promoted after obtaining an entry-level biomanufacturing position. Additionally, some employers offer tuition reimbursement or apprenticeship programs if you wish to complete a higher education degree.
